Job planning help event for Ryedale students

YOUNG people in Ryedale are being given the chance to start planning for their future careers at an event being held later this year.

The Opportunity Knocks event gives pupils in Years Nine to 13 from schools in the district the chance to speak to local businesses and raise awareness about the job openings available.

It has been organised by the Ryedale Work and Skills Partnership and will be held at Lady Lumley’s School in Pickering on November 13.

Companies taking part will include Forum Energy Technologies (UK) Ltd, Swinton Technology, the Feversham Arms Hotel, Ellis Patents, the Vion Group, Ryedale Folk Museum and the Fitzwilliam Estate. It is open to parents and students between 5pm and 7pm.

Ryedale District Council leader Keith Knaggs said: “Every discussion with business people in Ryedale reverts to skills, apprenticeships and employment for young people, and Opportunity Knocks is our flagship event in trying to provide opportunity for all at a time when it’s most needed.”

Richard Shaw, Ellis Patents’ managing director, said: “This is a great opportunity for students to see the wealth of high-quality employers in the region and hopefully focus their attention on some of the options which may be available to them when they leave school.”
