A GIRLS’ football team could be disbanded unless more members can be found.
Brooklyn Under 13s, which is about to go into its fourth season, is open to youngsters from school years seven and eight.
Manager Richard Kellett said they originally hoped to have 11 players but with four dropping out they were now struggling to get together a team for the new season.
“We play seven-a-side in the City of York Girls’ Football League, so we could really do with more players to compete against the other teams,” he said.
“The current team has played together since they were 10 so they will be very disappointed if they can’t carry on.”
Richard said he had taken over as coach when the previous one stepped down and he had gone through a coaching course.
“This is the only girls’ team in Malton and Norton and they really enjoy playing together,” he added.
“There is not a lot for youngsters to do in this area and it gets them out playing sport. However, unless we can find more players the only option will be to disband the team.”
Brooklyn Under 13 girls meets at Malton Community Sports Centre on Thursdays from 6pm-7pm.
Anyone who is interested in joining the team or would like more information should phone Richard Kellett on 01653 699287.
