FOOD FOR THOUGHT: Two of the organisers of the Malton Food Lovers Market, Alexia Williams and Tom Naylor-Leyland, at the Milton Rooms
CROWDS of foodie fans flocked to the Milton Rooms on Saturday for the Malton Food Lovers Market.
The event saw about 30 stallholders trading at the event with produce ranging from quail eggs to chillies and Dexter beef to locally-produced honey.
Visitors were treated to cookery demonstrations by chefs James Mackenzie, Anthony Gillham and Nigel Brown, who used produce from the stallholders to create the dishes they cooked on stage.
Organiser Tom Naylor-Leyland said: “We were delighted to welcome more than 2,000 people through the doors to the Food Lovers Market.
“The links between the local producers, traders in the town and chefs making use of local produce really cements Malton’s credentials as a town for food lovers.”
A number of volunteers helped the event to run smoothly having first enjoyed helping at the May festival.
Malton CIC volunteer Fiona Foley-Croft said: “It is wonderful to be involved with the Food Lovers events as they are helping to bring people into Malton and you get a great sense of giving something back to the community.”
Traders from shops in the town said they had also had a successful day.
Stephen Shaw, owner of Dickens of a Deli, added that the markets were good news for his business and reported higher than average takings at his cafe on Saturday.
Winner of the Food Lovers hamper was Caroline Nicholson of Malton.
The next Food Lovers Market will have a Christmas theme and will be held on December 1. From March 2013, the Food Lovers Markets will be held on the second Saturday of every month.
