A RYEDALE woman has finally completed a charity swim – second time round.

Ami Walker of Leavening was due to take part in the Great North Swim in Lake Windermere in June to raise funds for two charities close to her heart – Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Farm Crisis Network.

But the event was cancelled due to stormy weather.

Ami said: “I was really disappointed as I had been training for six months and really wanted to be able to collect all of the generously offered sponsor money that people had pledged for the two charities.”

Not wanting to let the charities down, Ami managed to secure a place at the Great Manchester Swim the following weekend.

“I swapped mountain views for skyscrapers and successfully completed the one-mile open water swim in Salford Quays, securing more than £1,300 of sponsorship money to be split equally between the charities,” she said.

“The atmosphere at Salford was amazing and I have been overwhelmed by all of the support people have given me. Thank you to everyone including Body and Soul Gym, the Jolly Farmer pub and The Market Place Restaurant, Malton , and Eastgate Vets in Pickering .”
