Soprano Emma Dennis and tenor Steven Goulden
A SPECIAL concert will be held at Terrington Village Hall next month to raise funds for Breast Cancer Care.
Featuring international singers, soprano Emma Dennis and tenor Steven Goulden, accompanied by pianist Peter Sproston, the programme will include a range music from West End musicals, opera and piano solos from Phantom of the Opera through to La Traviata.
Emma, who is originally from South Wales and Steven, from Howden, East Yorkshire, are graduates of the Royal Academy of Music and the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama.
Emma was diagnosed with breast cancer in February 2011 and as her treatment continues, she and Steven have found the support from Breast Cancer Care invaluable.
Because of her treatment, they are no longer able to travel extensively and their careers are on hold but they are keen to keep performing as much as possible and raise funds for Breast Cancer Care and other charities.
Emma, who teaches singing at Terrington Hall Preparatory School, said: “If I can make someone feel better just for a moment it will be worthwhile. We are so pleased to help Breast Cancer Care in any way we can especially as October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. We don’t know where we would be without their fantastic support during this difficult time.”
Ian Hughes, chairman of Terrington Village Hall committee, which is organising the concert, said it would be a wonderful way to enjoy an autumn evening with some stunning music.
He said: “The show promises to be fantastic. Steven and Emma are superb singers and travel throughout the UK and abroad, Peter Sproston is a very experienced and skilled accompanist.
“We are thrilled that they are donating their time and talents to support Breast Cancer Care. We are encouraging people to come and relax in the company of the highest quality talent and know that by attending, they really are going a long way to help raise funds for this worthy cause.”
Helen Cameron, area fundraiser at Breast Cancer Care, said: “In the UK someone is diagnosed with breast cancer every 11 minutes, so the demand for our free services is huge. The fundraising efforts of individuals and organisations such as Emma, Steven and Terrington Village Hall are hugely appreciated and ensure that we can continue our life-changing work.”
Autumn Serenade is on Saturday, October 13 at 7.30pm. Tickets, priced £10, are available from Terrington Village Shop on 01653 648488 or Malton Tourist Information Centre on 01653 600048.
