CHILDREN were wild about flowers when they went down to the woods at Castle Howard this weekend.
Castle Howard Arboretum Trust invited visitors to its annual Wild About Wood festival to help plant more than 3,000 plants to make wildflower meadows.
The project, in conjunction with Buglife, is aimed at attracting butterflies, bumblebees and moths.
Children and adults alike also had the chance to go on a mini-beast hunt, build a shelter, meet hawks and falcons, paddle a coracle, go tree-climbing and watch traditional woodcrafts such as willow weaving, pole lathe turning, heavy horse logging and chainsaw carving.
Musicians provided traditional English music and archers were on hand to let visitors have a try at archery.
