Motorcyclist and passenger seriously injured

A MOTORCYCLIST and his pillion passenger were both airlifted to hospital after they were seriously injured in a crash that closed a major North Yorkshire road for four hours.

The Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Great North Air Ambulance combined forces to fly the male rider, who had head and leg injuries, and his female passenger, who was also seriously injured, to James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash on the A171 Whitby to Guisborough Road outside Broadings Farm at about 11.45am on Saturday.

The accident involved a black Dodge Calibre car travelling towards Whitby and a black Honda motorcycle travelling in the same direction.

The 36-year-old driver of the car, from Darlington, was uninjured.
