‘No solution’ at Bedale death junction

CALLS for a crossing at a North Yorkshire junction where an elderly mobility scooter rider died have been dismissed by a councillor who said it would make the road more dangerous.

Bedale Town Council has asked for an investigation by North Yorkshire County Council’s highways department into safety measures at the junction of Firby Road and Masham Road in the town, where 81-year-old Ron Archbold died in a collision with a car on September 2.

But local councillor John Weighell said: “I have been to two or three site visits there and the end result is that the junction is not suitable for modern traffic and there isn’t actually a proper solution - a crossing there would make it more dangerous than it is now.”
