Questions are raised over use of youth centre
2:20am Friday 14th September 2012 in News
NORTON Town Council is to write to North Yorkshire County Council to find out the policy on the use of facilities at Brooklyn Youth Centre by members of the public.
Two councillors have been approached by local residents after their children were told the leave the site.
Coun Hugh Spencer said the football teams which used the field were also not allowed to use the toilet facilities.
“It used to be used by a number of groups and there is concern among the local community,” he said.
“I feel we need clarification as to why so many organisations are not able to use the building.
“In some ways this facility is as important to young people as the skate park.”
Coun Paul Farndale said he had been contacted by a resident whose sons had been playing at the far end of the field.
He said: “It was an ordinary sunny day and they were using it as a play area when the children were told they had to leave and since then the gates have been locked.”
