ONE man was killed and another seriously injured in a crash between three vehicles on the A1 in North Yorkshire.
A heavy goods vehicle carrying bottled gas collided with a combine harvester which was parked in a lay by on the A1, at junction 51 between Leeming Bar and Scotch Corner, south of Catterick, at about 2am yesterday. The lorry was then struck by a HGV which was towing a curtain side trailer.
A police spokesman said the driver of the vehicle carrying bottled gas was pronounced dead at the scene, and the driver of the second HGV was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Both lanes of the motorway were closed for some time, and a diversion was put in place until about 5pm to allow resurfacing work to be carried out, which led to huge traffic congestion.
Anyone with information that could assist the collision investigation, or who saw the vehicles prior to the crash, should phone North Yorkshire Police on 101.
Alternatively, phone Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555111.
