LEAVENING Primary School has welcomed a new headteacher.
Sian Mitchell joins the school from her previous post as assistant head at Heworth Primary School in York.
Mrs Mitchell, a teacher for 11 years, said she had been looking forward to her first headship.
“I want to carry on the good work of the previous headteacher during which the school was judged by Ofsted to be ‘good’,” she said.
“The challenge will be to take the school to ‘outstanding’, although I recognise it has many outstanding attributes as it is, and every head has their own ideas and visions.
“One of the key things I am also aiming to do is to raise the profile of the school as it is such a fantastic place and had not really had a high profile in the past.”
Mrs Mitchell, who is from York, said everyone had been very welcoming.
“I already feel like part of the furniture, which is good,” she added.
