Helmsley church earmarked for improvements

HELMSLEY’S parish church of All Saints could get two major improvements.

The Rev Tim Robinson,  the vicar, told the town council last week that it was hoped to raise £4,200 to provide new interior lighting and a flood lighting scheme for the exterior of the imposing building.

It would, he added, enhance the Market Place and result in the church being an integral part of it.

He has asked the council to help fund the work and also improvements in the churchyard.

The council agreed to seek a grant from Ryedale District Council’s New Homes Bonus fund and would then contribute half the remaining balance to the church.

In addition, Coun John Buffoni urged that the parish church clock should be renovated.

“It has lost its lustre,” he added.

Mr Robinson suggested that a public fund could be set up to finance the work.
