Child cyclist hurt in freak accident

A CHILD was taken to hospital after the brake lever of a bicycle became embedded in their knee in a freak accident near Castle Howard.

North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service said it was called by ambulance paramedics to the Lakeside Holiday park on Friday evening, where a nine-year-old child had fallen from their pedal bike and the brake lever had pierced their knee and become stuck.

Emergency crews said they used cutting equipment to remove the handlebars from the bike and the youngster was then taken to hospital by ambulance to have the lever removed.
