LADIES will have competition in the glamour stakes at Thirsk Racecourse this weekend as men will also be clamouring for a best dressed accolade.

The eight races at the racecourse’s flagship Ladies Day meeting, the first of which starts at 2.20pm on Saturday, will include the £12,500 one-mile four-furlong Hambleton Cup.

The £12,500 race will feature runners from trainers Mark Johnson, of Middleham, Richard Fahey, of Malton and Sir Michael Stoute.

Swinton Brass Band and Paradise Steel Band will provide musical entertainment alongside facepainting and a new children’s playground at the event, which is expected to attract up to 8,000 people.

The winners of the best-dressed contests at the event will be given a £300 voucher to spend at Northallerton department store Barkers, while the runners-up will get a £100 voucher.

Adorn Hats, of Harrogate, will judge a best hat competition and present the winner with a made-to-measure hat.

• See tomorrow’s The Press for more details about The Press Family Raceday at York Racecourse on Sunday with all the runners, all the tips and full details of entertainment that caters for everyone, from the smallest child to the oldest grandparent.

We wish to point out that Timmy the Lamb and Captain Barnacle will not be appearing however, Peppa the Pig will be among the VIPs.
