Surfers heading to Scarborough for contest
9:06am Thursday 6th September 2012 in News
PROFESSIONAL surfers will descend on Scarborough next month for round three of the UK professional surf tour.
For the second year running, the resort’s North Bay will host more than 100 of the best long boarders in the country, as they aim to win the UK Professional Surfing Title on October 6 and 7.
Last year more than 10,000 people attended the event and this year’s festival features live music from local bands and a freestyle mountain bike show.
The festival organisers believe the event has the potential to bring in an economic return in the region of £300,000 to boost the local economy at the end of the summer season.
Janet Deacon, Welcome To Yorkshire’s area director for North Yorkshire, said: “We are delighted that Scarborough is hosting the UK Professional Surfing Festival for the second year. Scarborough is now becoming one of the UK’s top destinations for surfing and with over 100 of the UK’s best surfers set to descend on the town as well as BMX riders for the festival, it should be a superb weekend.”
