Concert plan to say thanks to baby unit at Scarborough Hospital

THE parents of a baby who spent the first week of his life in the special care baby unit at Scarborough Hospital are hosting a concert on Saturday to raise funds for the facility.

Singer Rachel Anderson and her husband, Mark, who live in Cropton, said they wanted to do something to thank the unit for the care and support they received following the birth of James in April.

“The special care baby unit is raising funds to improve the family facilities and make it easier for parents to be with their babies at this critical time,” she said.

“We received fantastic care while we were there with James in April and consequently I decided to help their fundraising cause by organising this concert.”

Rachel said James had been born with low blood sugars and temperature and had to spend six days in the unit before being allowed home “He is now four and a half months old and certainly making up for lost time and putting on weight,” she said.

The concert will take place at Cropton Village Hall, starting at 7.30pm, and will include some solo material from Rachel as well as performances with her dad Peter Reynolds, and her sister Becky Reynolds.

In addition, her friends from local singing group Reflections will complete the evening’s line-up.

Rachel added: “We’re not selling tickets, just asking for donations at the end of the evening if people have enjoyed it. There will be a raffle with tea and biscuits at the interval and you never know, I might even try to bake a cake.”

Anyone who would like to support the concert should simply turn up on the night. Doors will be open from 7pm
