Helmsley councillor steps down

LONG-SERVING Helmsley town councillor John Buffoni has stepped down from the authority.

A former council chairman, he said he had new challenges ahead, adding: “In any case I think it is good to have a change and I would hope to see younger people joining the council.”

The present chairman, Coun Martin Vander Weyer, paid tribute to Mr Buffoni, who has been a councillor for 14 years.

He said: “He has been a great asset to the council and to Helmsley. John has worked hard for this community and we shall miss him at the council.”
