Safety fears lead to pedestrian crossing proposal for Pickering

TOWN councillors in Pickering are to put forward a possible scheme to provide a pedestrian crossing at a major junction in the town.

The move followed a call for action from a resident to improve road safety at the junction of the A170 Scarborough to Thirsk road and the A169 Pickering to Whitby road.

Coun Fred Downes said: “It is a dangerous place to cross the road.” Other councillors said that while there were barriers on the footpath edges, pedestrians often ignored them.

When the councillors have drawn up ideas they are to be sent to North Yorkshire County Council’s highways department for its engineers to consider.
