MORE than 100 competitors donned their running shoes on Sunday to take part in the annual Ryedale 10-mile run.

Now in its 11th year, the event is held each September to raise funds for Malton Hospital .

Organiser Sylvia Milson said the race, which started at Eden Camp and finished outside the Body and Soul Gym in Greengate, Malton , had gone really well.

She said: “It was another successful run with lots of people coming to support the event.

“Everyone really enjoyed it and we had ideal weather conditions for the run.”

The Ryedale Run is held two weeks before the Great North Run and has raised thousands of pounds over the years for Malton Hospital.

This year, competitors came from across the country including Ipswich and Barnsley.

The winning runner was Paul Butler in 57 minutes with the first female, Cathy Wood, clocking one hour seven minutes.

“The marshalls were brilliant on the day and the League of Friends did a fantastic spread of refreshments for the runners when they came in,” Sylvia added.

“I still keep hoping to retire and would welcome any help with organising next year’s event.”
