Special constables needed in Whitby

A DRIVE to recruit more special constables in North Yorkshire is being focused on Whitby following a lower response than expected in the resort.

North Yorkshire Police said that while the campaign had been successful elsewhere in the region, there was a lack of volunteers in the seaside town.

Chief Inspector Andy Colbourne, of Whitby Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “I am very surprised we have not had more volunteers as I know the people from the area are proud of where they live and have a great community spirit.

“I would like to encourage anybody who has thought about becoming a special to take the next step and apply. Having worked alongside specials, I know just how valuable their contribution is to the force and the difference they make to local communities.”
