Boost for Pickering park

THE newly-opened community park in Pickering could get a major facelift thanks to a cash injection.

Pickering town clerk Andrew Husband said a working party set up by the council was asking Ryedale District Council to allocate £10,381 – its share of the Government’s New Homes Bonus allocation to the district – to go towards the £20,000 needed to provide seats, benches, picnic tables and litter bins in the park.

The town council is set to take over control of the park in late 2014, said Mr Husband.

Meanwhile, landscaping is to be carried out at the park which is being created in a joint scheme between housing developers and the council in Whitby Road, on what was originally Rogers’ Nurseries.
