A COUPLE who were looking for something for their children to do on a rainy day have opened a new indoor play centre and coffee shop in Malton.

Chloe and Julian Rendall decided to provide somewhere for youngsters and their parents and after approaching Fitzwilliam (Malton) Estate found a suitable property in Railway Street.

Captain Barney’s is a pirate-themed indoor play centre with a soft play area including slide and ball pool.

The coffee shop also serves a wide selection of coffees and teas as well as snacks and light lunches.

A party room is available for hire all year including a visit from Captain Barney and his parrot chum ‘Squawk’. The room can also be booked for meetings, clubs and rehearsals.

Plans for the future include an outdoor play area, new equipment and toddler area, baby signing classes, Pampered Chef evenings, Halloween house and a Christmas grotto.

Chloe said: “We will be holding events regularly such as treasure hunts and mini discos. Of course, older children and parents and guardians will not be left out as they can have fun on the Wii as well as there being wi-fi access at the play centre.

“We want to offer lots of exciting activities each week so that there is always something different to do. During the holidays there will be music sessions for the under fives, story time sessions, pirate training and princess rescues, so popping in to see what’s on is a must.”

Lorna Sissons, of Fitzwilliam Estate, added: “We are delighted to welcome Chloe and Julian to Malton and wish them every success with Captain Barney’s.”

Captain Barney’s is open 10am-5.30pm, Monday to Saturday, and 10am-4pm on Sundays.
