Celebrations at Cauwood Centre, Malton

It was party time for the Cauwood Centre in Malton as it celebrated 21 years of serving people with learning disabilities.

About 70 people joined in the festivities as users, their families and staff past and present united to remember the happy memories of the centre’s past and mark its recent refurbishments.

Since its opening 21 years ago by Sir Marcus and Lady Worsley, the Cauwood Centre has been given a new breath of life with extensive decorations and improvements inside and out.

It is now home to Ryedale’s first Changing Place – a fully adapted toilet and showering facility for use by people with disabilities and complex needs. The centre has also transformed its outdoor space into a haven of swings, water features and raised beds.

It has also created a sensory garden for the centre’s disabled users to enjoy.
