Street Angels help vulnerable in Scarborough
8:48am Saturday 21st July 2012 in News
VOLUNTEERS are to go on patrol on the streets of a North Yorkshire town to help people who are vulnerable on nights out.
The Street Angels scheme, a partnership between Churches Together, North Yorkshire Police and Scarborough Borough Council, was launched last night in Whitby.
The team of 12 volunteers have been trained in conflict management, first aid and also drug and alcohol awareness. Members will hand out water, help people to find taxis, pick up discarded bottles which could be used as weapons and give out flip-flops to people walking in bare feet.
They will also call the emergency services when needed.
A similar scheme has already been run in York.
