HOUSE prices in the North York Moors National Park are among the highest in the country but sales are down.

The findings are revealed in the authority’s annual house price survey, which shows that in the past year the average price of properties sold in the park was £267,690, compared with £256,988 the previous year.

Caroline Skelly, the park’s planning policy officer, said that house prices in the park had risen four per cent in 2011, while nationally they dropped by 1.3 per cent. “The overall price of property remains comparably high,” said Ms Skelly, who added that compared with regional and national figures, it indicated “a premium for living within the National Park”.

The report, which goes to the park’s planning committee tomorrow (Thursday) says 55 homes were built, of which 29 were classed as “affordable”.

Planning permission has been granted for a total of 1,084 homes between 1991 and 2012.
