THE popular Malton Stables open day is to return next month due to demand from trainers and members of the public.

Last held 10 years ago, the event has been revived by members of Malton Racing Association and will involve 25 stables.

Association member Karon Brown said the aim was to promote Malton and Norton as successful racing towns.

“For a number of years, Middleham has always been mentioned as the top racing town whereas this area is doing really well with more horses and successful trainers,” she said.

“We felt it was about time this was publicised and Malton was given a more prominent position.”

Stables will be open on Sunday, August 26, 9am-1pm, with a number of special displays at many of the yards.

Three main car parks will be set up with coaches taking visitors to and from the yards including a park and ride in Malton Market Place to Richard Fahey’s yard.

Karon said they had decided to organise the open stables event after enquires from people interested in seeing its return.

“A few trainers approached us who wanted to see it restarted and everyone has been very positive about spreading the good news about Malton,” she said.

“Our aim is to get it up and running this year start simply and we would like to think it can get bigger and better next year.”

Tickets are £10 for adults with accompanied under 16s free and will be available on the day. They include a £3 concession for Beverley Races the same day.

More information will be published in the Gazette & Herald in the run up to the event.
