Ryedale building project wins award
8:41am Saturday 7th July 2012 in News
THE owner of a Ryedale house, a building firm and a team of design experts have won an awa rd for their work on a project in the district.
Resident Brian Turner, father-and-son builders Simon and Freddie Barker and architectural designer Richard Winn were recognised for their efforts on a property in the North York Moors National Park near Pickering, at the North and East Yorkshire Regional Building Excellence Awards.
They won the best extension category after the house, built in 1852, was enlarged to provide additional space for Mr Turner and his partner Joan. The project took about a year to complete and saw more than 200 tonnes of rubble, stone and soil removed to ensure the house blended in with its surroundings.
“We are absolutely delighted to win this award,” said Mr Turner.
“Simon and Freddie worked exceptionally hard for us, using local stone and local tradespeople to make sure the extension really did fit with the existing house and into the surrounding area.”
