Food safety classes for North Yorkshire businesses

FOOD businesses in North Yorkshire are to be served up a masterclass in how to avoid the dangers of the e.coli bug.

Environmental health teams will stage three seminars in Malton, Harrogate and Northallerton for food producers and retailers, with butchers, meat processors, companies which use vacuum-packing machines and those who supply ready meals to vulnerable groups - such as pensioners and children under five - being urged to take part.

The events will raise awareness of the risks of e.coli and how future inspections of businesses will be run, as well as giving those attending the chance to raise concerns. Speakers will include Dr Heather Aird, from York-based Microbiology Services, and Brian Hagyard, of Harrogate Borough Council.

The seminars take place on June 18 at Northallerton’s civic centre, June 25 at Harrogate Borough Council’s offices and July 2 at Ryedale House in Malton, from 1.30pm to 4.30pm.A place can be booked by phoning Hambleton and Richmondshire environmental health technical support on 01609 767215.
