Swinton Playgroup opens it doors for two-year-olds

A SUCCESSFUL playgroup is opening its doors to two-year-olds for the first time.
Swinton Playgroup has been established for more than 30 years and with a motto of ‘learning through play’, aims to offer a fun and varied environment for children at the very beginning of their education.
Traditionally only available to children from two-and-a-half years old and with Government funding available for three-year-olds, Swinton Playgroup has now opened its doors for two-year-olds.
Judith Boyes, play leader, said that while the staff had enhanced their training to better equip themselves for the younger children, they had also received specific training to help highlight any concerns parents may have over speech and language or interactive ability.
She said: “Government funding may be available to some two-year- olds and as childcare costs rise dramatically, this will be a welcome relief for parents who may want to return to work early.
“With 15 hours’ funding available per week, the playgroup offers a flexible number of sessions.”
The playgroup, which runs during school term-time, operates from the Reading Rooms in Swinton. Access to a large outdoor play area is encouraged whenever the weather allows and is often requested even when wellies and waterproofs are required.
Judith said it was rewarding to see children interacting with others and building their self-confidence both physically and socially.
“We are fortunate to have premises that, while within easy reach of Malton and surrounding areas, are very much a part of the community in Swinton with many families being able to walk here,” she said.
Parents interested in learning more are invited to pop in during a session or phone the playgroup on 01653 695020.
