Grants available to fight fuel poverty
2:42pm Wednesday 9th May 2012 in News
THE battle against fuel poverty in Ryedale has been given a boost through a new grant.
The money will allow any residents who do not have a mains gas supply and are receiving benefits to get free external wall insulation through a scheme funded by British Gas and run by Ryedale District Council and the Yorkshire Energy Partnership.
The initiative is aimed at reducing heat loss by about 45 per cent and saving people up to £640 a year on their heating bills, and is open to all private homeowners, tenants or landlords who use solid fuel or electricity to heat their properties and who get income-related benefits.
More information is available by phoning the energy partnership on (01904) 554406.
Discounts of up to half are available through the scheme for those who do not qualify for the free insulation.
