Police close road in search for Scarborough gunman

POLICE closed a road and searched a property as they continued to hunt for a man in connection with a North Yorkshire shooting.

Officers were called to a house in the Eastfield area of Scarborough at about 5.30pm on Saturday after a 36-year-old man was shot in the leg.

He is currently in a stable condition in hospital. His injuries are believed to have been caused during a “struggle” with another man who has yet to be traced.

Officers closed Seamer Road, at Seamer, yesterday while a property was searched but no one was found, and the road re-opened later. A police spokesman said officers were making extensive inquiries to trace the man and urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

Inspector Leo Suret, of the force’s Eastfield Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “I can assure residents that officers are doing all they can to trace the man involved in this incident. We don’t believe that he poses a threat to the general public but obviously it is important that we locate him as soon as possible. If you have any information that could help the police, please get in touch.”
