Community cash moves step closer

A NEW fund which will use Government money to help community schemes in Ryedale will move a step closer this week.

Ryedale District Council is to put a chunk of the £214,540 it received through the New Homes Bonus scheme, which rewards local authorities for bringing in extra council tax revenue through new housing developments, into a Community Investment Fund.

It will provide grants to parish councils and voluntary and community organisations to set up local projects.

The council will meet on Thursday to approve how the application process will work.

Officers say the preferred option is for all parishes in a particular ward to work together in drawing up proposals for funding for that area, with local councillors acting as the figurehead.
