Key public services could move to Stanley Harrison House

POTENTIAL uses for a prominent Ryedale building are being examined after it was bought by council chiefs.

Stanley Harrison House, near Malton Railway Station, will be converted from offices and could house a new library if existing facilities close, following its purchase from property and development firm S Harrison by Ryedale District Council.

Future plans for the building have not yet been finalised but the authority said it was exploring possibilities.

Corporate director Paul Cresswell said it provided an opportunity to consider the location of key services and talks were being held with various parties.

S Harrison chairman Martyn Harrison officially handed over the keys to the former railway building – which was the company’s base until its move to York in 2007 – this week.

The building could also become a new home for organisations currently based at Community House in Wentworth Street after permission was given to turn part of the nearby car park into a supermarket.
