PLANS for a new supermarket on Malton’s Wentworth Street car park have been criticised in an open letter to Ryedale District Council.
The letter, from Roddy Bushell, agent for the Fitzwilliam (Malton) Estate, suggests the proposed store would not generate more business for town-centre shops, despite promises from developers.
It said: “The design is for a ‘one stop shop’ retailer with a business plan aiming to keep all of their customers to themselves.” The letter also suggests the loss of the car park would create problems for employees in the town.
