PART of the A64 between York and Malton will be closed for 11 nights from next week to allow for a £98,000 maintenance scheme.

The Highways Agency is installing new studs and white lines along a mile-long stretch of the route in both directions between its junction with Scotchman Lane, near Flaxton, and the start of the dual-carriageway section near Whitwell-on-the-Hill.

The project will take place between 8pm and 6am from next Monday and Friday, March 16, with motorists being directed through roadworks by contractors’ vehicles in 10mph convoys.

A separate £47,000 scheme to carry out similar work on the A64 at Tadcaster Bar, near York, will begin on Monday, March 19, and be completed on Wednesday, March 21. The eastbound entry slip road onto the route will be closed between 8pm and 6am both nights but will not affect the main carriageway, and drivers will be directed along a diversion route through Tadcaster.
