A BOMB disposal squad was brought in to investigate a wartime shell found near Musley Bank, Malton, on Saturday.
Police said it had been discovered by a dog walker 20ft from the road. As a result, Castle Howard Road and Swinton Lane were closed for several hours and the area was cordoned off.
A police spokeswoman said the shell was taken away for disposal.
