CHARITY shop staff are encouraging people to dig out their brightly-coloured winter woollies on Friday as part of National Bobble Day.

Held for the first time last year, the aim is to raise money as well as awareness of Age UK’s Spread the Warmth campaign.

Carol Holby, manager of Age UK in Kirkbymoorside, said the campaign had been launched to help prevent thousands of older people suffering needlessly during the colder months.

She said: “People can wear their favourite or silliest woolly for the day and make a donation or make their own bobbles to wear.

“The day helps raise extra funds for the charity and helps make people aware of how much older people feel the cold during the winter.”
