THE Star Inn in Harome has been recognised as one of the top gastropubs in the country.
Run by Andrew and Jacquie Pern, The Star was placed third in the Budweiser Budvar Top 50 Gastropubs 2012 awards announced on Monday.
The awards, organised by leading pub industry magazine, The Publican’s Morning Advertiser, recognise the best gastropubs across the UK.
Industry experts, including food writers, celebrity and executive chefs, pub company chiefs, pub guide editors and gastropub operators, voted for their top gastropubs.
Rob Willock, the Publican’s Morning Advertiser group editor, said: “The Star Inn is an outstanding gastropub and richly deserves its third place. It offers its diners food of the very highest standard in the warm atmosphere of the pub and plays an important part in the community.”
Andrew, who is also head chef, said: “We were thrilled when we were voted 19th in the National Restaurant Awards Top 100 UK Restaurants last year, so to now be placed number three Gastropub in the UK is amazing.
“In both cases we were the highest placed in the north of England, so I feel that we are flying the flag for Yorkshire and Ryedale, of course.”
Andrew said the awards had come in their 16th year at The Star.
“It is a great achievement and a credit to all concerned to have remained at the top of the pile or thereabouts for such a long period, and awards judged by our peers in the industry are always extra special,” Jacquie added.
