A HOUSING developer has had its bid to place a string of advertising flags by the side of a Ryedale road turned down.
David Wilson Homes Yorkshire wanted to put up 15 banners on six-metre flagpoles next to The Nurseries site in Whitby Road, Pickering, but the proposals have been refused by Ryedale District Council.
Pickering Town Council had said it had no objections as long as the flags did not become “tatty”.
The company won permission last year to build 96 homes on the former Rogers’ Nurseries site, as well as creating a park which will include 20 allotments, cycling and skating facilities, picnic and outdoor fitness areas, a games area and dog-walking space.
It will also provide £300,000 for Pickering’s two primary schools to provide facilities allowing them to cater for the extra pupils coming into their roll as a result of the scheme.
