BREAST surgery patients in Scarborough can once again be treated closer to home thanks to a major investment at the town’s hospital.
Breast services at Scarborough Hospital were integrated with those at York in July, with diagnostic services transferred temporarily to York.
However, the opening of a new mammography suite at Scarborough means patients can once again be seen at the site. Mike Proctor, the chief executive at Scarborough Hospital, said: “This has been a great example of how the integration with York will not only ensure that services are maintained at Scarborough Hospital but will provide a much improved service.
“The new mammography equipment will allow us to access state-of-the-art image quality and will help deliver our vision of a safer, high-quality, breast service within the Scarborough area.
“I would like to thank our breast care nurses and consultants as well as the support staff who have helped maintain the service during this transition.”
