TELEVISION presenter and writer Selina Scott is to officially open the first Food Lovers Market in Malton on Saturday.

The indoor market showcasing the best local produce in the region will provide a new venue for producers to display and sell their food and drink.

Many of the selected stall holders for this new seasonal event have already exhibited at the Malton Food Lovers Festival weekend in May, impressing 10,000 visitors with their produce.

The market has been championed by one of the world’s best-loved cooks, Antonio Carluccio, who was impressed with the local producers he met during a visit to Malton last month.

Stephanie Moon, local chef and star of BBC2’s Great British Menu, will also be giving a winter cookery demonstration in the Food Lovers tasting studio along with Dan Farrell, from Burythorpe Hall, and Sophie Legard of Malton Relish.

Tom Naylor-leyland, from the We Love Malton marketing team, said they were delighted Selina Scott was coming to open the event.

“In the run up to Christmas, it is always a splendid idea to show off the great food we have to offer in this area, and this new indoor market will do this brilliantly,” he said.

“And when such a great food name as Antonio Carluccio backs our efforts we know we really have something to shout about.”

The new Food Lovers Market will be held in The Milton Rooms, Malton, from 9am, with the official opening at 10am.
