TELEVISION chef James Martin has brought his expertise to Scarborough Hospital, where he is cooking up a new patients’ menu.

The Saturday Kitchen presenter is working with hospital bosses as part of a new series in which he aims to improve the quality and reputation of hospital food in the UK. Hospital chief executive, Mike Proctor, said he was delighted to welcome the Yorkshire chef on to his catering team for the filming of the show.

He said: “Our recent patient environment and action team inspection has shown that we provide good quality, nutritional meals. However, we are always striving for excellence and welcome this opportunity to use James’ experience and connections to make improvements to the way we cater for our patients and staff.”

James said: “I know the true value of fresh food, especially for sick patients, and that’s why I’m determined to demonstrate the importance of having healthy food in hospitals.

“I really do hope this BBC daytime series will help change the way hospitals cater for their patients.”

James Martin’s Food Surgery is due to be shown on television in the autumn.
