PLANS are taking shape to help more people in villages in North Yorkshire enjoy a trip to the cinema.
Screenwaves, operated by Reel Solutions in conjunction with Scarborough’s Stephen Joseph Theatre, aims to transform village halls, community centres and schools into cinemas for residents beyond the coastal towns of Filey, Whitby and Scarborough, where people have to travel long distances to a cinema.
The project is supported by North Yorkshire Digital Cinema and is backed by £400,000 of Lottery funding.
Venues lined up so far include the Robinson Institute in Glaisdale, Snainton, Hinderwell, Burniston and Cloughton, Ayton and Cayton village halls and Scalby Church Rooms.
It will also run a screening at the Howsham Mill Project, a Georgian watermill, which is being restored as a community centre, on May 14 at 9pm.
