Hat-trick for Goodys

9:46am Wednesday 30th August 2006

A MALTON-based hair and beauty salon has reached the final of a national community award for the third successive year.

The Creative Head Most Wanted Awards is specifically for the salon which has done the most for its local community. The team at Goodys, Malton, has been recognised for raising nearly £20,000 for local charities, sponsoring local youth projects and organising many charity events.

In the past year, Lindsay Burr, owner of the Goodys Group and The Academy of Hair and Beauty, has invested heavily in building a new training academy in Commercial Street, Norton, which works closely with Ryedale schools and is currently training more than 200 students up to NVQ level three.

The academy now has 20 employees from the York, Scarborough and Ryedale area, Lindsay said.

"I am especially proud of this award. We work hard throughout the year to raise money for local charities and promote training in the community. My staff are a credit to the industry and to Ryedale."

Salon manager Natalie Abbey said: "We feel it is important to put something back into the community and we will continue to do so."

Goodys staff will be celebrating at the awards ceremony in London in September.
