Lucy Thurston sets up Tea and Tots at Welburn village hall

A NEW mum who couldn’t find a toddler group in her area has decided to set up her own.

Lucy Thurston, from Crambeck, was looking for somewhere she could meet other mums and socialise with her 10 month old son, Aston.

“Aston is my first child and I didn’t know anyone else my age in the area so I was looking for a group to go along to but all the others nearby were on a day I went to work,” Lucy said.

“Welburn has such a lovely village hall but doesn’t do much for children so I thought, why not give it a go and start my own group.”

Lucy added that Welburn Tea and Tots had held its first session last week and 11 families had turned up.

“It was amazing, I couldn’t believe how many people came along. It was absolutely brilliant.

“I had only hired the little room but I am now hoping to hold the session in the bigger one and perhaps extend the time of the session too.

“I’m also looking for anyone who would be able to help with the sessions – either sorting out refreshments or helping with one of the activities.”

Lucy said they had a baby corner with play mats for the younger ones and a planned activity each week for older children.

“Mums can have a drink and a piece of cake and make new friends in an informal and fun environment,” she added.

“Anyone with pre-school children is welcome to come along and don’t worry about being new – we are all new.”

Welburn Tea and Tots is held every Tuesday morning, 10-11am in the village hall. The cost is £2 per session for each family.
