Helmsley

On Tuesday, January 10, Helmsley YFC held their dairy judging evening by kind permission of the Dean family. There was a good turn out of members and the results were as follows. Joint 1st Andrew Welford and Robbie Flintoft, 2nd Edd Bentley, 3rd Paul Dean.

On Sunday, January 15, members held a bath push around local villages. This event proved very successful as they raised £1,500 pounds for leukaemia research.

On Wednesday, January 18, members went to York to see the pantomime - A Lad Aladdin. Everyone who went to see this really enjoyed it as usual.

On Tuesday, January 31, members held a social night at Carlton Village Hall. A lot of members from other clubs in Ryedale joined in with the fun and games. Everyone who attended had a very enjoyable evening.

Ryedale

Young farmers from Ryedale have taken top honours in a regional sports competition.

The Ryedale District hockey team were first in the Yorkshire Federation of Young Farmers' Clubs event, beating off the Craven District, who were second, and third-placed Harrogate District.

The annual event in Tadcaster on January 29 also saw farmers compete at kwik cricket and volleyball.

The kwik cricket teams go through to the Northern Area Field Day being held in Cumbria in June and the volleyball and hockey teams will compete in the northern area weekend being held in the Isle of Man in early April.

Thanks were expressed to Ebor District of Young Farmers Clubs for hosting the event and also to all those who helped out on the day.

The overall results were: Junior kwik cricket - 1st Easingwold YFC, 2nd Aire Valley YFC, 3rd Worth Valley YFC. Volleyball - 1st South West District, 2nd Craven District, 3rd Cledales District.

Hockey - 1st Ryedale District, 2nd Craven District, 3rd Harrogate District.
