Former Miss York and Miss England Georgia Horsley lined up to take over Miss York contest

FORMER Miss England winner Georgia Horsley could be about to take over the running of the Miss York beauty contest following the death of previous organiser Vivienne Lee.

A question mark has hung over the future of the competition since the sudden death of Miss Lee in December.

But The Press has learned that Georgia, 23, of Norton, is in negotiations with Miss England co-ordinators with a view to taking over the running of Miss York.

Georgia said Vivienne would not have wanted the competition to end.

She said: “The competition was down to Vivienne and it was something I absolutely loved – if it hadn’t been for it I would not be where I am today. Just because Vivienne has passed away, I don’t want the contest to end. I know she wouldn’t either, and would be so happy if it was to continue.

“Myself and Lisa Powell, the Miss England choreographer, have been in talks together and we would quite like to run it in memory of Vivienne. Hopefully Vivienne will be looking down watching us do the competition but I don’t want it to be forgotten about because Vivienne has gone.”

Georgia said she believed she had enough experience to know how the competition was run and hoped a decision would be made in the next few weeks.

Angie Beasley, organiser of the Miss England contest, also confirmed discussions were taking place.

“We have had a few people speak to us about the possibility of running it,” she said. “We haven’t come to a decision, but we are looking at Georgina Horsley and Lisa Powell.”

Miss Lee died following a suspected fall at her York home early in December. The 52-year-old was responsible for single-handedly reviving the Miss York contest six years ago.

Women aged 17 to 24 who are interested in taking part in Miss York 2010 should visit the Miss England website for details at missengland.info
