TELEVISION presenter Selina Scott has scotched rumours that she planned to stand for Parliament at the General Election.

Reports in political circles in Ryedale hinted that the celebrity, who lives at Appleton-le-Moors, may stand as an independent candidate in the new Thirsk and Malton constituency, which includes the Ryedale district.

The MP for Ryedale, Conservative John Greenway, is standing down, and Anne McIntosh, MP for the Vale of York, is the prospective Parliamentary Conservative candidate for the division.

Ms Scott’s father, the late Charles Scott, was a long-standing member and former chairman of Ryedale District Council.
