Drivers are warned to take great care on roads across North Yorkshire tonight and tomorrow morning as the current wet conditions followed by freezing temperatures are likely to make driving conditions hazardous.
North Yorkshire County Council’s highways officials warn that overnight temperatures are set to plummet to -5c overnight and tomorrow morning. These sub-zero temperatures combined with the fact roads are still wet from recent heavy rainfall, mean that salt treatments on the road from the county council’s gritting fleet may well be washed away causing the risk of ice on the roads.
There is a danger of widespread ice on untreated roads, but even on treated roads driving conditions may be difficult. North Yorkshire’s highways officials are therefore advising all drivers on the roads this evening, tonight and tomorrow morning to take particular care and take heed of weather warnings.
