Ryedale does its bit for Children In Need appeal

PUDSEY Bear took centre stage on Friday as Ryedale did its bit for Children in Need.

Schoolchildren wore spotty clothes, held spellathons and even took over from their teachers for the day to raise money for the appeal.

At Ryedale Leisure Centre in Pickering, hundreds of pounds were raised by members who took up the Techno Gym 10k challenge.

Joint duty manager Megan Welbourn said they had each used cardio vascular equipment to reach their individual 10k target.

“They not only kept themselves fit, but helped to raise a lot of money for a very good cause,” said fellow manager Wendy Harding.

Pupils at Welburn Hall School, near Kirkbymoorside, hosted a coffee morning under the watchful eye of catering supervisor and trainer Rachel Brickman.

She said: “The coffee morning and baking was part of the school’s citizen and catering curriculum in which the pupils raise money for a charity and prepare foods for an event.”

She said the pupils had not only baked items to sell, but also collected toys, books and prizes, and designed the posters and invitations.

A giant Pudsey was the centrepiece for Pickering Infants School’s fundraising activities. Pupils took along their own favourite teddy bear from home, and helped fill in the outline of the bear with coins, all to benefit Children in Need.

At Norton Community Primary School, pupils took part in an inter-house spellathon wearing spotty clothes, while the younger children enjoyed a teddy bear’s picnic Malton Primary School pupils swapped roles with their teachers for the day which included plenty of games.

Children at Langton Primary sold cakes and held a ‘best decorated’ teddy competition.

And staff at Costcutter in Norton enjoyed keeping the peace on Friday for Children in Need.

Fun and games were the order of the day and customers donated a massive £300 during the event.

The team thank everyone who donated prizes for the bingo held on Thursday evening at the Railway Club and customers for helping the fundraiser go with a swing.
